a call for revolution

I found this book on the shelf at Powell’s bookstore in Portland, and it immediate stuck out to me. It’s now my little red manifesto. (And no, not the communist manifesto)

It’s the newest book from the Dalai Lama, and Sofia Stril-Rever. It was a quick read, and beautiful got straight to the point that it is up to our current generation to basically save the world. It’s time we accept that fact, and take action - and the Dalai Lama says it all comes down to compassion.

Here are some excerpts that particularly stood out to me:

”It is up to you, my young friends to write the next chapter of our history. I hope it will be the most beautiful and joyful chapter in the entire memory of mankind.”

”I call on the next generation of young women to be the mothers of the Revolution of Compassion that this century so desperately needs. You have a special role to play in creating a better world.”

”You may be the first generation in history to face the very real possibility of extinction of life on our shared planet, but you are also the last one that will be able to do something about it.”

One chapter, titled “Rebels for Peace” inspired me to make these little illustrations:
